Kendrick Perkins Does The Hit And Run

Kendrick Perkins Boston Celtics

January 31, 2009 – Dr. Dime

Who doesn’t love the Boston Celtics? Surprisingly they are quite a few haters out there. Personally I think there are always going to be fans that hate the current champs, or any other team that finds some success. But last night I cringed when I saw Kendrick Perkins grab Jason Maxiell around the neck in a headlock and throw him to the ground for seemingly no good reason.

Now granted, I realize we can’t hear everything that is being said on the court, so for all we know Maxiell may have made some mama joke about Perkins old lady. But I doubt it. Most likely Perkins had that enforcer/tough guy hat on and wanted to send a message with a hard foul. It turned out to be a little too hard, as Perkins received a Flagrant 2 and was immediately ejected from the game.

I’m old school when it comes to the rough stuff. I think there has to be high level of physicality in the game. There is no room for malicious plays but there is room for enforcers. This is a man’s sport. I will admit that Perkins went too far on the play and fouled a little too hard and shouldn’t have grabbed Maxiell around the neck. But my biggest concern was about how Perkins yanked him to the ground then turned and ran away. If you are going to try and play the tough guy, at least man up enough to stand there and face your opposition and look him in the eye when he gets up. Don’t run away like Carmelo Anthony’s backpedaling hit and run against the New York Knicks last year.

The league will undoubtedly be reviewing this play as we speak. They will be making a decision on fines and suspensions for Perkins. So while the league executives are doing so, why don’t you take a look at the play below and tell us what you think the fine/suspension should be….if any:
