Video: Blake Griffin Gets ‘Flipped’ by Ameer Ali in Round 1

Blake Griffin

March 20, 2009 – Dr. Dime

I loved the replay by CBS on the following play where Ameer Ali gets tangled up with Blake Griffin and flips him over his back onto the hardwood being labeled as “bush league”. I haven’t heard that term used in quite that manner since my old junior high school basketball coach ripped into one of my teammates for taking a charge and proceeding to get a technical for shaking his pelvis at the opposing bench with his hand behind his head. My coach at the time said “that was f$%&*n BUSH LEAGUE!”

I love College Basketball. I realize there will be thousands of fans and analysts across the country outraged that Ameer Ali from Morgan State would have the audacity to flip the surefire #1 pick in this year’s upcoming NBA Draft, Blake Griffin, onto the floor in a manner that could injure him and seriously hurt his team’s chances at a National Championship. But i’m choosing to look at the play in a bit different light. Morgan State was down by over 20 points when this play happened. If i’m Morgan State’s coach, i’m happy to see some fight left in my players. I’m happy to have a guy that is willing to stand up to the bully and maybe spark some energy out of his teammates.

Then again, after sober second thought. Um…Maybe sober 8th replay of the video, you realize the ball was nowhere in the vicinity at the time of the flip. And it was a straight up wrestling move from the 80’s, a la Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat. Okay so maybe it was ‘bush league’. What do you think of the play?
