Amar’e and Nike are “Always On”

After all the Knicks went through in order to clear cap space for the summer of 2010, you would think they’d be doing all they could to keep those acquisitions; namely Amar’e Stoudemire. That’s why I was shocked and had a tough time believing the rumors a few weeks ago that the Knicks were willing to trade Stoudemire for Chris Paul. With Stoudemire, Anthony and Chandler, they probably boast the best front court in the business. Nothing against Chris Paul, but I’m not convinced that would’ve made the Knicks a better team.

But this season will be huge for Amar’e. During much of last season, his name was in the same sentence as “MVP” and he proved alot of doubters wrong who said he was only successful because he played with Steve Nash. With the additions of Melo and Tyson, it’ll be interesting to see if he can still put up the same type of numbers given that talented front court. My guess is yes. And with his arrival in New York also came a somewhat new-found celebrity. He was always a very recognizable and well-respected player, but it was brought to new heights when he came to New York. If he were still a member of the Suns, I’m not sure Nike would be featuring him in their “Always On” sportswear spot quite like this:
