Westbrook Ties Wilt for 2nd Most Triple-Doubles in Single Season

Back in the 1970s hall of fame baseball player Reggie Jackson was known as “Mr. October” for his legendary clutch moments in the playoffs as a member of the New York Yankees and the Oakland Athletics. I think it is time we start referring to Russell Westbrook as “Mr. Triple Double.”

Westbrook registered his incredible 31st triple-double Thursday night in the Thunder’s 102-92 win over the Spurs with a 23-13-13 performance.

That tied him with Wilt Chamberlain for the second most in a single season in NBA history.

For even more context for just how insane 31 triple-doubles in a season (and counting) is, consider the fact that LeBron James just got his 50th career triple-double Thursday night.

Oscar Robertson still holds the record for most triple-doubles in a single season with 41 in 1961-62, the only time an NBA player has averaged a triple double this season which Westbrook is still on pace to do.

Westbrook has 17 games left, so there is a chance he could break Big O’s single season mark. At this current pace he is set to get seven or eight more triple-doubles and fall just short, I have a feeling that Westbrook will find a way to assert himself as the triple-double king though so he can assume his new moniker.
