DeAndre Jordan Thinks a Gold Medal Means More Than an NBA Ring

DeAndre Jordan shared a pretty interesting opinion while being interviewed by the media in Rio on Wednesday.

He said that in his view, winning a an Olympic gold medal is a bigger accomplishment than winning an NBA championship ring.

When you take a step back and analyze the statement at a base level you can definitely understand the sentiment, technically winning an Olympic gold medal signifies being on the greatest single team in the world as you have defeated what the rest of the world has to offer.

Also, there is only an Olympic gold medal handed out every four years not every year like an NBA title.

But beyond the technical rarity associated with an Olympic medal and what it signifies for the rest of the world, let’s be honest, being a role player on an extremely stacked team that is the overwhelming favorite to win a gold medal and would be seen as a huge failure if it doesn’t doesn’t exactly warrant the same amount of value as being a star player on an NBA title winning team.

I think it’s fair to have that assessment and it is accurate in some ways, but I also think it is a personal protection for never winning an NBA title and I bet DeAndre Jordan would appreciate an NBA title ring much more because of the difficulty of the accomplishment.

Early reports are that DeAndre Jordan may completely change his opinion before deciding to retain his initial opinion before the gold medal game.
