Miami Heat Lose Tyler Johnson for 2-Plus Months—And Yes, That Matters

Tyler Johnson
About the Miami Heat staying healthy…Yeah, that’s not going to happen.

Not right now at least.

Goran Dragic recently returned to the rotation, but now Miami’s backcourt must soldier on without sophomore Tyler Johnson, as he begins to recover from shoulder surgery, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports:

Immediately, it might not seem like this matters. But that’s only if you don’t watch the Heat.

Johnson has become an important part of what they do. He leads every Heat player to attempt more than five three-pointers in long-range efficiency, and his net rating in better than those of Dwyane Wade and Hassan Whiteside, per NBA.com.

Seriously.

The good news for Miami is that the offense is, statistically, better without Johnson on the floor. But the threat of his three-point touch has the potential to be deadly when placed inside the right lineups.

In the meantime, the Heat will have to look elsewhere for outside help, because they need outside help.

Ahem:

Miami is putting in less than 33 percent of its long-distance looks on the season, which ranks inside the bottom five of the league. Johnson, to put it bluntly, will be missed.
