Wayne Ellington had 19 points in the Heat’s 115-86 win on Wednesday night, hitting 5-for-7 from three-point range.
Why this is notable? Because with those five three-pointers, Ellington has now made 207 three-pointers for the season, a new record for a player coming off of the bench.

This breaks Eric Gordon’s previous record of 206, which he set in the 2016-17 season.
For a frame of reference to show how much the game has changed, it was 16 years after the three-point shot was first instituted in the NBA in 1979 that any player made 200 three-pointers in a single season.
That feat was accomplished only twice from 1979 to 2000.
Ellington is 5th in the NBA in three-pointers made this season behind James Harden, Paul George, Kemba Waker and Kyle Lowry.
He has developed himself into one of the more dangerous marksman in the NBA, a very valuable skill as a role player in 2018.
