76ers Unveil Dr. J Statue

Julius Erving was a true trailblazer for the game of basketball, one of the first players to truly play above the rim and wow basketball fans around the world with his incredible athleticism, jumping ability, and his unique ability to glide gracefully through the air.

Erving did his damage as an NBA player and member of the Philadelphia 76ers from 1976-1987. He is likely the greatest 76ers player of all-time.

The organization has decided to honor that legacy by erecting a statue in front of their practice facility in Camden, New Jersey, which was unveiled on Tuesday.

This is a pretty cool gesture and completely warranted for one of the most influential players in the history of the game of basketball, and a guy who represented the sport well on and off the court, serving as a great spokesperson and face of the league when it sorely needed it in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Erving is a two-time NBA MVP, 11-time NBA All-Star, and led the 76ers to an NBA title in the 1982-83 season.

He played 16 seasons overall in the NBA and ABA.
