According to Brian Windhorst, during his appearance on the Hoopshype Podcast Monday afternoon, future hall of famer Vince Carter’s days in Sacramento could be numbered.
“Vince Carter is a buyout candidate. They’ve decided that they’re not able to compete and they aren’t really going to play the older guys. I think he’s a buyout candidate.”
Carter, who turned 41 on Monday, is averaging 5.1 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 16.6 minutes per game for the Kings this season.
He signed a one-year, $8 million contract with the Kings this past summer and has found his role decrease in the past week as the Kings have made the decision to give more playing time to their younger players and rest veterans on different nights.
Vinsanity is clearly a senior citizen by NBA standards at this point and a shell of the player he was even in his mid-30s, but he is an above average three-point shooter and a high I.Q. defender that can absolutely add some depth and leadership to a team trying to contend or make the postseason.
How fun would it be to see VC play a small role for a team like the Warriors or Rockets or even finish his career where he became a superstar as a Toronto Raptor.
It will be interesting to monitor this situation over the next few months, I get the feeling the Kings will allow Carter to join a contender to have one last chance to play in the NBA Playoffs.
People often overlook how rare it is for a player of Carter’s ilk to transition so gracefully into the golden years of his NBA career and extend it by altering their game to accept a role as a bench player called upon to contribute in limited moments.
Let’s get one more Vinsanity playoff moment.
