Speculation is rife right now in regard to the future of LeBron James. He is set to become a free agent in 2018 with his contract at the Cleveland Cavaliers entering its final year. The NBA legend has expressed his wish to stay put at his hometown club; but that he is putting the matter to the back of his mind in order to remain focused on the current season, as he attempts to help the Cavaliers to success.
Looking at times gone by, it certainly looks good for the Cavaliers as after joining back in 2014, King James, as he’s sometimes referred to as, stated that he wouldn’t be looking to switch teams again during his career, meaning he was happy to finish his playing days in his hometown. He’s also signed new contracts in 2015 and 2016 without a hitch too. So looking at that and the fact that he has already expressed a desire to resolve matters in the summer, it shows not only his commitment to the team, but it also suggests he’s more than likely going to put pen to paper on a new deal.
The concern about his future increased tenfold after a convincing defeat the Golden State Warriors in the finals last season coupled with the departure of Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics. Irving’s trade request hit James hard and he spoke about it in the media, suggesting that he went through a range of emotions after hearing Irving wanted out. He also claimed that he did everything possible to try to convince the 25-year-old to stay and also tried to understand his reasons for looking to leave.
There are always going to be rumours regarding The King and his future, especially as he will be a free agent in 2018. According to Unibet, one that has come to the fore recently is that he is rumoured to be ready to swap Cleveland to join the Los Angeles Lakers as they look to form a super team. The Lakers are hell bent on trying to knock the Golden State Warriors off of their perch and the way they plan to do this is by recruiting not only LeBron James but the likes of MVP Russell Westbrook too.
LeBron James signing a new deal will put the rumours to bed but the news that his long-time friend Dwayne Wade is set to sign for the Cleveland Cavaliers is sure to all but confirm that The King will be staying put and will be signing a new deal in Ohio. The pair enjoyed success together in Miami and stayed close friends after James headed home to join the Cavaliers. The King also expressed a desire to play alongside Wade again before both of their careers were at an end and it’s extremely unlikely that should Wade join the Cleveland Cavaliers, that LeBron James would pass up the opportunity to make that a reality once again.
