With his Dallas Mavericks eliminated from playoff contention , Mark Cuban is ready for the offseason to get here.
So that his team can get a new point guard.
As the always-candid NBA owner said, per Mavs.com’s Earl K. Sneed:
Mark Cuban: "We've got depth (at point guard), but we've got to get that one pass-first point guard. That's what we don't have."

Mark Cuban: "We've to get better at point (guard). There's no question. If we can't do it in the draft, we'll look at free agency."

The Mavericks already have some interesting names to monitor at point guard. J.J. Barea can be an asset when he’s healthy, and both Seth Curry and Yogi Ferrell have flashed sustainable quality at the position.
Still, point guard is clearly the Mavericks’ most uncertain spot, now that they have committed the center slot to Nerlens Noel. Barea will turn 33 in June, while neither Curry nor Ferrell has the look and feel of a franchise floor general, at least not yet.
Cuban’s best bet is hitting the free-agent market. The Mavericks will have some cap space to work with if they decline Dirk Nowitzki’s team option and re-sign him at lower value, and there are a few bigger names, like Jrue Holiday and Patty Mills, who aren’t necessarily locks to stick with their current teams.
Taking a flier in the draft is always an option, but the Mavericks will be selecting outside the top seven. It’s tough to find someone who can make an immediate impact that deep in the lottery for a team that’ll enter next season with postseason ambitions.
