Dion Waiters is having a career revival in South Beach this season as a guy who went from being the No. 4 pick of the 2012 NBA Draft to being a journeyman who was unable to find a home or consistent role.
Waiters is putting up career-highs across the board, including averaging 16.1 point per game and shooting 40 percent from three-point range. The quirky pairing of Dragic and Waiters is working as the Heat have been a top 10-15 team in the NBA for months now.
Unsurprisingly this recent personal success, increased role and team success has made Dion Waiters a happy camper and he is ready to commit to the Heat beyond the 2016-17 season.
Here is what Waiters told Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald:
“I want to get it done as quick as possible,” he said, hoping Heat longterm interest is mutual. “Let’s keep this thing rolling by any means. I don’t want to go into free agency with a couple days and make a decision. I don’t want that. I know where I want to be. Let’s just get it done. My mom loves it here. Would be mad at me [if I left]. My son loves it. My family loves it.”
The Heat should want to bring back Waiters as well as he has become one of the most dependable players in the league in crunch time situations this season as evidenced by this crazy stat:
eFG%, last 2:00 of close games:

It will be interesting to see what kind of contract he will sign this summer.
