Chicago Bulls Will Be Interested in Chris Bosh If He Plays in NBA Again

No one is quite sure if Chris Bosh will ever play in the NBA again given his now-extensive history with blood clots, but the Chicago Bulls are monitoring his situation ahead of next season.

From ESPN.com’s Marc Stein:

1. More than one rival team has said they don’t expect Bosh to be waived by Miami until after March 1, thereby ensuring he’s not playoff-eligible for another team. The prospect of removing Bosh from the team’s payroll becomes an active option for the Heat after Feb. 9, which is the one-year anniversary of his last game for the club.

2. If Bosh, who turns 33 in March, makes it back onto the floor next season, word is that the Chicago Bulls are already plotting a run and will be at the front of the line to try to sign him.

Chicago won’t be alone in its push for Bosh if he is cleared to play following the official dissolution of his marriage with the Heat. The team might even believe it has the inside track on picking him up because Dwyane Wade is on the roster and owns a player option for next season.

But the Bulls’ interest in Bosh doesn’t say much about the futures of Taj Gibson and Nikola Mirotic (restricted), both of whom will be free agents this summer. Though Bosh, in theory, won’t end up costing too much money because of his age and wild card status, the Bulls have Robin Lopez, Bobby Portis and Doug McDermott on the docket, the latter two of whom should see time at the 4.

A lot, of course, can change between now and next season, and Bosh’s situation is very fluid. If nothing else, this report merely proves that there will be heavy interest in his services should he ever be allowed to play again.
