In an era where player movement happens so frequently, it’s rare to see a guy wants to stay in a city when he has a chance to leave and play in his hometown. Well, making more money by staying certainly helps. But when DeMar DeRozan decided to stay in Toronto and not even meet with his hometown Lakers, it came as a bit of a surprise.
DeRozan staying in itself isn’t entirely shocking, but the fact that he never met with the Lakers is. Per DeRozan, he wanted to have his own legacy with the Raps. Hard to be mad at that.
When you have an opportunity to go home, that’s something that certainly would cross your mind. But it wasn’t anything,” DeRozan told Southern California News Group. “After I finish playing, I’m pretty sure I’ll live in L.A. But I just wanted to do something special and leave a legacy of my own in Toronto.”
