Less than three days after being let go as the head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies, in what reportedly was more his decision, Dave Joerger has been hired as the new head coach of the Sacramento Kings.

Joeger will reportedly sign a four-year, $16 million contract to become the Kings 9th coach since 2006.
The Kings interviewed a staggering amount of head coaching candidates during the last few weeks to fill their vacancy, everyone from Patrick Ewing to Vinny Del Negro, but reports started surfacing the moment that Joerger was done as the coach of the Memphis Grizzlies that he was their guy.
Joeger was 147-99 in three seasons as Memphis Grizzlies coach making the playoffs all three years and managing to guide an injury ravaged Grizzlies squad to an above .500 record in 2015-16.
Although Memphis seems to be in a weird place as a franchise now and could be headed for a rebuild, Joeger basically choose to leave a more stable franchise with good leadership for a team that hasn’t had a winning record in 10 seasons and is known to be the most dysfunctional organization in the NBA.
It’s a risky move for Joeger and a decent hire for the Kings. Let’s see if he can become the first Kings coach to have any success since Rick Adelman and if he can finally be the guy to get through to DeMarcus Cousins, if not, he may be looking for another job in the next two years.
