Stan Van Gundy Fined $25,000 For Criticizing Refs

The Pistons nearly stole game 1 versus the Cavs in Cleveland, but the Cavs eventually pulled away late. If you ask Stan Van Gundy, the Cavs were able to win the game thanks in part to the refs. During an in-game interview, on national TV, Van Gundy implied the refs were not calling anything on LeBron James:

Stan had to have known the league was going to punish him for that. Guys have been fined for much less than that. On Monday night, the league announced that Van Gundy would be fined $25,000 for his comments. But sometimes you need to stick your neck out there like this in order to get your team fired up. Let’s see if it works.

Detroit Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy has been fined $25,000 for public criticism of officiating, it was announced today by Kiki VanDeWeghe, Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations.
Van Gundy made his comments in a live television interview during the Pistons’ 106-101 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on April 17 at Quicken Loans Arena.
