The playoff injury bug struck again Tuesday night. And to a team that can ill-afford an injury to their best player. The Celtics’ Isaiah Thomas left game 5 vs. the Atlanta Hawks with a sprained ankle and did not return.
It was a completely freak injury. He drove the lane and landed awkwardly after converting a layup. To make matters worse, the injury came with the Celtics down by more than 30 points in the fourth quarter, with Thomas still in the game.
The C’s, of course, are without Avery Bradley, who suffered a hamstring injury in game 1. If Thomas can’t go in game 6, Boston pretty much has no shot. The team goes as he goes and Tuesday night was proof of that, as he had a terrible night shooting.
Boston Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas suffered a mild left ankle sprain during the fourth quarter of Tuesday’s Game 5 against the Atlanta Hawks and will not return.
The Celtics were down 31 early in the fourth quarter, but Thomas was still in the game. He landed awkwardly following a layup. He stayed in the game until the next whistle before running straight to the tunnel.
