During this historic season by the Golden State Warriors it seems as though they are aiming to break every record to measure a team’s greatness and they have broken many. They now hold the record for the best start to a season at 24-0, the most consecutive home wins in NBA history at 53 and counting, they had the best record at the All-Star break at 48-4, were the quickest team to clinch a playoff spot in NBA history by accomplishing that feat on February 27, and have the team record for most three pointers in a season.
Last night they broke another under the radar record that has taken them almost two years to break and measures a team’s ability to finish games. The Warriors have now won 113 straight games when leading by 15+ points. This breaks the record of 112 straight games by (guess who) the San Antonio Spurs from November 2004 to February 2007.
Here is the list of teams who have had the most consecutive wins when leading by 15+ points in a game before the Warriors broke the record last night:

It seems like another silly, meaningless record and in the grand scheme of things it is, but it is the mark of an extremely focused and mature team that doesn’t melt down or give anything away.
It really shows how great of a defensive team the Warriors have become under Steve Kerr. This record speaks more to their ability to defend and protect a lead. The Warriors breath taking offense is what garners all of the Steph Curry highlights and headlines, but it is their grittiness and commitment to defense that makes them one of the greatest, if not the greatest basketball team we’ve ever seen.
There is really one record left for the Warriors to break this regular season and it is the most heralded and talked about record of all: 73 wins. The Warriors will need to merely go 6-2 in their final 8 games to do it.
All hail Chef Curry and his crew.
