Injury bugs just won’t leave the Miami Heat alone.
Tyler Johnson is probably done for the year, Dwyane Wade is, as per usual, banged up, and Chris Bosh is coping with another blood cot issue that has him on the sidelines.
And now Beno Udrih is gone.
The HEAT announced today that guard Beno Udrih will undergo surgery for a torn plantar plate in his right foot and is expected to miss three months.
Udrih has appeared in 36 games (five starts) with the HEAT this season averaging 4.4 points, 2.5 assists, 1.8 rebounds and 16.3 minutes while shooting 43.4 percent from the field. He was originally acquired by the HEAT, along with Jarnell Stokes, via trade with the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Mario Chalmers and James Ennis earlier this season on November 10.
Udrih isn’t a monster loss on the surface. But the Heat are short on point guards, and Udrih, even though he’s shooting an unimpressive 33.3 percent from deep since arriving in Miami, is one of the team’s most reliable floor-spacing options.
It helps the Heat that Goran Dragic is playing better, and that Wade, when healthy, can function as a glorified point guard. But man…maybe they should’ve tried to acquire Brian Roberts, now of the Portland Trails Blazers, after all.
