Danny Ainge Has Already Offered Kevin McHale a Job With Celtics

The league is still somewhat in shock after yesterday’s surprise firing of Rockets head coach Kevin McHale. The Rockets made the Western Conference Finals a year ago, so this season’s 4-7 start can’t entirely be pinned on his shoulders. Or, at least, it shouldn’t be.

But luckily for him, he has friends in the league. Celtics GM Danny Ainge has already offered McHale a job in Boston. The two are former teammates with the Celtics from back in the 80s, so they aren’t strangers. But is McHale willing to go from head coach of a contender to “working with my big guys”? Doesn’t sound like it.

“I’ve always tried to get Kevin to come work with me and work with my big guys,” said Celtic president of basketball operations Danny Ainge told the Herald….

“I told Kevin that today,” said Ainge, who is on the road scouting college games. “We’ve got a spot for him. I know we could figure something out for him in some capacity, but I think he’s just in a wait and see mode.

“He appreciated me reaching out to him, but I think he’s just going to lay low. He’s probably got bigger and better things to do — or more relaxing things to do.
