If he played today, Dikembe Mutombo would probably be regarded as a top 2 or 3 center in the league. But because he played in an era that included David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, Hakeem Olajuwon, Alonzo Mourning and others, he sometimes becomes an after thought.
But he will get his day in the sun, as Mt. Mutombo will be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. The other inductees include Spencer Haywood, Jo Jo White, Dick Bavetta, John Calipari and Lisa Leslie.
Former NBA players Dikembe Mutombo, Jo Jo White and Spencer Haywood, University of Kentucky coach John Calipari, former NBA referee Dick Bavetta and former WNBA player Lisa Leslie make up the 2015 class elected into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Monday.
Finalists must receive 18 of 24 votes from the honors committee to be elected into the Hall of Fame. The class will be enshrined at a ceremony on Sept. 11 at the museum in Springfield, Mass.
