In the Dallas Mavericks’ 107-80 Monday victory over the Charlotte Hornets, their 7-foot center from Germany—Dirk Nowitzki—reached an impressive milestone on being the fourth player in NBA history to tally 27,000 career points with a single team.
With exactly 6:07 remaining in the third quarter, Nowitzki hit a jumper to clinch the 27,000 point mark that officially places him in a very elite list of superstars and legends.
Here’s a video of the shot:

As expected, the Mavericks immediately gave their congratulations to him for this astounding achievement.

The other three players that have reached this milestone are Karl Malone (36,375 points) of the Utah Jazz, Kobe Bryant (31, 937 points and counting) of the Los Angeles Lakers, and Michael Jordan (29,277 points) with the Chicago Bulls. Impressive company, right?
Certainly, this achievement has further solidified Nowitzki’s reputation as one of the greatest players to ever play the game and arguably the best foreign born player in league history.
At the age of 36, with father Time catching up with him, hopefully there’s still enough fuel in Nowitzki to have a deserving ending to his career with another championship. The Mavericks are off to a hot start behind Monta Ellis’ scoring and Nowitzki’s leadership. But if things don’t go as planned, accolades like these and his championship ring are already more than enough to make him a lock for the Hall of Fame.
