Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, which includes this bold statement from Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Kevin Durant regarding the greatest who ever played the game, and for him it was Allen Iverson.
He posted a photo of him and Iverson on his instagram account.
And this was the caption that went along with the photo:
Chuck too real. He changed the way we play ball. He changed the culture of ball. He is pound for pound the best. He paved the way. I can go on and on. But he’s a legend and I’m just walking the path he created.
As much as this may be a surprise for a lot of people, we cannot deny the tenacity and skill of the former all-star guard that has mesmerized millions of fans around the world. His size, speed, and most especially his ball handling skills were almost unmatched—as every almost every game we expect him to break somebody’s ankle with his crossovers.
Throughout his 14-year career, he has averaged 26.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 2.2 steals.
However, despite these astounding numbers from Iverson –it’s hard to accept the idea of someone else being better than the one and only Michael Jordan. Most of the players of today’s generation haven’t really seen Jordan play at his prime. When it comes to scoring, Iverson proves to be a worthy match; however, it’s a whole different story when it comes to winning championships.
Championships were clearly the only thing missing in his numerous accolades—which is really unfortunate for a player of his capabilities.
Iverson may or may not be the greatest player to ever play the game, but for sure he’s one of the best ever and should be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
