Watch: Philly’s Spencer Hawes Drops 58 Pts In Seattle Pro-Am

When I first saw a headline that read Philadelphia 76ers big man Spencer Hawes scores 58 points in Jamal Crawford’s Seattle Pro-Am, I’ll admit my first thought that it must be a typo.

But then came the following video evidence of the chronically underachieving former Lottery pick dominating the competition to notch the highest scoring game this Summer for any NBA player, besting Detroit’s Will Bynum, who dropped a cool 50 points in the Nike-Jordan Pro-Am in Chicago.

Former NBA 6th Man of the Year Jamal Crawford is hosting the rather large Summer League, taking place at Seattle Pacific University, one which boasts the mantra “All Hoops, No Hype” and features a bevy of NBA, International, and collegiate stars in prime competition in absence of a pro hoops team in Seattle.

While everyone was buzzing about the prospects of former Sonics Kevin Durant and Jeff Green reportedly making a return to where they played their rookie campaigns, it was Crawford himself that put initially put on a show during the league’s opening weekend, scoring 39 points and showing off some of his trademark insane handles.

Crawford, later dropped another 46 points in another game, out-dueling new New Orleans Pelican guard Treke Evans’ 42 points.

Apparently there’s not much defense is on display in the great Northwest as several other NBA players have put up some insane stats in the league’s early going like Kings point guard Isaiah Thomas dropping 49 points, Grizzlies guard Tony Wroten scoring 42, and Nate Robinson, Terrence Williams, and now Spencer Hawes lighting up the scoreboard, going 19/30 from the field and 18/22 from the free throw line, for an insane 58 points.

Here’s to hoping that Hawes can do this once the regular season begins, as Philly doesn’t have many options with All Star Jrue Holiday now a member of the Pelicans.  I’m not holding my breath, but at least it looks like his nasty mullet from last season is gone….
