Report: Chris Paul Will Sign 5-Year, $107M Contract With Clippers

All of the drama and turmoil for the Los Angeles Clippers may have paid off. The number one objective of the team was to keep Chris Paul in a Clipper uniform. The acquisition of Doc Rivers may have helped, as it appears Paul will stay put. And the money can’t hurt, as it’s reported that Paul will sign a 5-yr, $107 million contract today on July 1st.

It was unlikely that Paul was going anywhere else, regardless of who the coach was. At the end of the day, the Clippers could offer him $28 million more than any other team, and his profile has increased since he began playing in LA. It was in his best interest, for many reasons, to stay.

Paul’s decision to stay with the Clippers is hardly a surprise. The only suspense remaining is when and how he will officially accept. Paul cannot sign his new contract until July 10th but he can agree to terms before then….

ESPN The Magazine’s Chris Broussard reported Saturday that Paul’s representatives have told teams to not even bother pursuing the point guard when free agency begins because he planned to re-sign with the Clippers.
