Denver’s George Karl Named NBA Coach of the Year

The Denver Nuggets were one of the surprise stories of the NBA season. Although they are devoid of you would classify as a superstar, they have a bunch of guys that gel on the court and really play well together. In fact, they only lost 3 games at home all season long and earned a 3-seed in the playoffs. Needless to say, the exceeded the expectations of most.

Coach George Karl is a big reason for that. Unfortunately, the Nuggets were bounced from the playoffs last week, but George Karl is being honored by being named the NBA Coach of the Year.

After leading the Denver Nuggets to a team-record 57 wins, George Karl is the recipient of the Red Auerbach Trophy as the 2012-13 NBA Coach of the Year, the league announced today.

Karl, who guided the Nuggets to the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference, joins Doug Moe as the only coaches in franchise history to win the award. It also is the first time Karl has received the honor in his 25 NBA seasons.
