The OKC Thunder are pretty much having their way with the Houston Rockets in their first round series, but some very interesting and untimely news has surface regarding Russell Westbrook.
In the age of the never-ending knee injury, Westbrook apparently has a meniscus tear in his right knee and will need surgery, according to KOCO.com.
Westbrook has been known for being somewhat of an ironman, as he has never missed a game due to injury. That dates back to his collegiate days at UCLA too. This type of injury can have a guy out for a few weeks or a few months. Tough to tell at this point. Get well, Russ either way.
Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook will undergo surgery in the coming days to repair a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee, the team announced today.

On the hopeful but likely not possible side of things, Yahoo!’s Adrian Wojnarowski is saying sources think its physically possible that Westbrook could even return during this set of playoffs from the knee surgery if the Thunder make the Finals. Doubtful, but keep the dream alive for OKC Fans:
One source close to OKC’s Russell Westbrook on whether he could return from meniscus tear in this postseason: “Maybe.”

The real question for the organization becomes, do they want to rush Westbrook back for these playoffs in hopes of getting their first CHIP, or will that jeopardize his long term future with the organization and his career in general.
