Report: Monta Ellis Opting Out At End of Season for Free Agency

Monta Ellis is by far one of the best pound for pound scorers the league has ever seen since Allen Iverson. So any news related to his possible free agency this summer will have quite a few teams salivating at the possibility.

Gery Woelfel of the Milwaukee Journal Times this weekend claims to have sources among Monta Ellis’ inner circle who have shed light on Monta’s intentions for this summer…

MILWAUKEE — As the Milwaukee Bucks season winds down, it appears Monta Ellis’ days in a Bucks uniform are numbered as well.

At least, that’s the prevailing sentiment of some Ellis acquaintances. They claim Ellis, the Bucks’ potent-scoring guard, has indicated to them that he intends on opting out of his contract after the season and becoming an unrestricted free agent. (via)

Ellis landed in Milwaukee last season in a multi-player trade with Golden State that centered around Andrew Bogut. The Bucks where hoping for big things from the backcourt of Ellis and Brandon Jennings. Although there were signs of chemistry between the two, and some great stretches of play, they lacked consistency. The 8th seeded Bucks don’t seem to have much hope against the Miami Heat in the post-season, especially given their poor play to close out the season, likely to carry over into the playoffs.

If this report is true, it would seem these next few games will be the last we see of Monta Ellis in a Bucks uniform.
