Gary Payton Elected to 2013 Hall of Fame Class

For a guy that grew up on NBA basketball in the 90’s, Gary Payton was more of a legend than most of the NBA fans today probably realize.

NBA.com and FoxSportsFlorida.com report that Payton, the anticipated headliner of the class of 2013, will have his selection officially announced on Monday and that John Stockton and George Gervin will be his presenters.

Affectionately referred to as ‘The Glove’ for his defensive prowess, Payton made playing defense ‘cool’ with fans across the country. Well known for shutting down opposing guards of all sizes, including his great battles trying to slow the GOAT Michael Jordan, Payton was the king of steals on the ball, not just filling the passing lanes.

But Payton was probably as well known for his quick wit and trash talk, as he was for his steals and jump shot.

Gary Payton will always be a part of the Seattle Supersonics history, paired with the high flying Shawn Kemp, but he also made stops in Los Angeles, Boston, and the NBA Champion Miami Heat where he finally got his CHIP.

I think I can speak for everyone at The Hoop Doctors in saying, ‘Congrats to the Glove’, and well deserved. Peep the Gary Payton highlight mix to get your adrenaline pumping. Damn, I miss those days….
