Mavs Pick Up Eddy Curry and Waive Delonte West

The Dallas Mavericks will certainly raise a few eyebrows around the league with the timing of waiving guard Delonte West, but the kicker will be the quick turnaround to pick up center Eddy Curry off waivers.

The Mavericks announced that they have been awarded free agent center Eddy Curry on a waiver claim.

“We are excited to bring Eddy Curry to Dallas,” President of Basketball Operations Donnie Nelson said. “He has worked extremely hard this of-season and can provide our front line with much needed depth.”

The Mavericks wasted no time filling a need – and the roster spot that will be created when Delonte West is waived – by putting in a waiver claim for veteran NBA center Eddy Curry, a source said.

Dallas’ strongest seasons in the modern era came with a big body playing a traditional center position. Think Erick Dampier and then Tyson Chandler. Could they possibly be looking for Curry to play a rotation spot off the bench now that the big man has dropped weight from his younger and much heavier days? Doubtful, but you can’t teach size, so at the very least it could be nice to have that option when the game slows come playoff time. Looks like Mavs will now have the second half of this once dynamic duo, seen as the ‘future of the Bulls’…
