In your weird and shocking news of the day, former NBA shot blocker Stromile Swift has been given 18 months probation after pleading guilty to stalking a Shreveport woman.
The District Attorney’s Office tells The Times the 32-year-old pleaded guilty Friday to one count of stalking, and Judge Ramona Emanuel gave him a suspended six-month jail term.
Swift was arrested May 19, 2011 after Chaquinita Pouncy told police he was following her vehicle after an argument. Less than six months earlier, police had arrested Swift when he allegedly drove up to Pouncy’s house with a gun in his pocket.
Pouncy also alleged that Swift sent her threatening text messages.
‘Stro’, as he was affectionately referred to by Grizzlies and Nets fans during his career, never really lived up to his potential after being highly touted coming out of LSU for his defensive abilities. He did however prove to be more than just serviceable during his career, and played all-star caliber ball in spurts from year to year. That said, it’s sad to see a former NBA star end up reduced to pleading for probation after committing ridiculous crimes such as stalking.
