It’s no secret that hip-hop icon/rapper Drake is a staunch supporter of the University of Kentucky hoops program. He’s a regular at many UK home games, sometimes sitting in the vicinity of the Kentucky bench and very close to arguably the Wildcat’s biggest celebrity fan Ashley Judd.
But just how does the Toronto born musician and actor have the pleasure of receiving his very own personalized Wildcats Championship ring? As Drake and Rick Ross say……he wasn’t with them shooting in the gym.
Besides the fact that Drake, born Aubrey Drake Graham, has been a longtime personal friend of John Calipari dating back to his time at Memphis, the move to award Drake a Championship ring is ingenious.
Think about it, the one key ingredient in Coach Cal’s success in Lexington is continued top notch recruiting of 18 year old young men. What (or who) do most, if not all, high school aged students listen to?…Drizzy Drake. The man has already had twelve #1 hits on Billboard’s Charts.
The move is also a form of free advertising since in the modern age of Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, potentially millions of followers will now catch a glimpse of the awesome gem encrusted championship ring. To a potential recruit, having a chance at winning a chip like this one may sway a player to committing to UK.
