J.R. Smith Fined $25K for “Lewd” Twitpic

This might be a new precedent even for David Stern. Over the weekend, J.R. Smith snapped a pic of his lady-friend’s bare behind with his camera phone and posted it on twitter. It caused somewhat of a stir for the next few hours and Smith and this young lady joked about it somewhat. But apparently Stern didn’t find it funny because he fined Smith $25K. There must be some language written into the CBA addressing conduct on social media.

The NBA has fined New York Knicks guard J.R. Smith $25,000 for posting a photo of a scantily clad woman on his Twitter account.

Stu Jackson, the NBA’s executive vice president of basketball operations, announced the punishment on Saturday.

Smith appears to have eventually deleted the post but that didn’t stop the photo from being passed around the Internet on Friday, earning significant attention that included a mention on the sports website Deadspin.

Smith later posted a message directed to the woman, saying, “Things are being taken (too) far sorry (at)therealtahiry.”
