Unfortunately for 6 year NBA veteran Rudy Gay, he missed out on his Memphis Grizzlies improbable Playoff run last season, when they took the OKC Thunder to 7 games in the Western Conference Semi’s, because he went down in January with what turned out to be a season ending shoulder injury.
Many wondered just how far the Grizzlies could have advanced if they had the use of Gay, and his career 18 points per game. Could Memphis have advanced to the WCF and given the Dallas Mavericks a run for their money as well?
In Gay’s absence Memphis teammates Marc Gasol, Zach Randolph, and Tony Allen got to showcase their skills for a worldwide audience while Gay had nearly 8 months to recuperate from his injury.
As recently as September, Gay was seen competing in the Impact Basketball “Lockout League”, held in Las Vegas, and looked like his old self, throwing down tomahawk dunks with regularity. Surely Memphis brass is hoping all is well for the upcoming season as Gay just signed a 5 year – $82 million max deal back in Summer 2010.
Considering he’s coming off such a major injury, I’m not sure if coach Lionel Hollins would be happy or worried to hear that Rudy was recently caught on camera at Rob Dyrdek’s skate park, Fantasy Factory, dunking on of a 25 foot rim….
