Anthony Davis’ Emphatic Putback vs Chattanooga

December 19, 2011 – Allen Moll

Playing Division I basketball at an elite level almost seems to easy for University of Kentucky freshman Anthony Davis. In only 10 games on the collegiate level, he’s already notched 4 double-doubles, single-handedly helped his Cats hand UNC their only loss of the season, and should be the odds-on favorite to be the top pick in the 2012 NBA Draft.

It’s absolutely scary to think just how good the 6‘10 forward/center can eventually become as he seems to get better with each and every game wearing the now legendary blue and white. He’s now averaging 11.8 ppg, 10 rebs, 4.2 blocks, and shooting an amazing 67% from the field on the season, and he’s only scratched the surface of his immense talents on the offensive side of the ball.

Possessing an astounding 7’4 wingspan, Davis is arguably one of the best first year shot-blockers that the college ranks has ever seen. So much so, that he has an outside shot at besting Hassan Whiteside’s NCAA record for blocks per game by a freshman(5.35 bpg) by season’s end.

But what he undoubtedly does better than virtually anyone in college basketball is finish with authority at the rim. He’s so prolific at jamming the rock that he has even flushed it over teammate Michael Kidd-Gilchrist in practice.

Recently, in a blowout win over Tennessee-Chattanooga, Davis had one of his best games of the season consisting of 14 points, 18 rebounds, and 5 blocks. While his stat-line is impressive, what he did off of a Marquis Teague miss with just over 3 minutes remaining was downright jaw-dropping……….
