NBA Card of the Week: Brent Price Falls on the Floor

In 1994 Brent Price was coming off a disappointing first year after going 32nd overall to the Washington Bullets. Price was mostly famous for having the same last name of his older brother and HOF Mark Price while having none of the same redeeming qualities. Well, save for that sweet side-part.

The back of the card gives us the juciest details of Price’s season that year. I’ll stop for commentary along the way:

“[Price] recorded 35% of his baskets from three-point territory.”

So, basically Price shot a percentage equal to that of Ryan Gomes but somehow worse than Brad Lohaus. Go figure.

“Averaged 10.5 PPG in his 13 starts.”

Actually, pretty good. Except that Craig Ehlo did the same thing that year. And it’s not actually very good.

“Roasted Nuggets with 19 PTS and career-high 14 AST in his first start of the season on March 11.”

Insert weed joke here. Actually, the better story here is that if Price’s first start of the season wasn’t until March 11 that means Price was basically playing in the garbage time of the season as the Bullets wound up finishing 24-58 that year. So his 10.5 PPG looks extra pathetic.

Brent Price’s photo sums up his career perfectly – he’s down on the floor, you’re not sure why and he looks surprised to be there. It’s just further proof that just because you’re the sibling of a good player doesn’t mean you’re going to be any good. Right, Drew Barry? Right.
