Allen Iverson Shows That He’s Still Got it

November 23, 2011 – Kevin Burke

It has long since been noted that Allen Iverson is very interested in making a return to the NBA and is willing to accept any role in order to do so. Last week, we brought you the news that he’d like to play for the Celtics and we also explored whether or not that makes sense. I concede to the fact that at age 36, Iverson definitely isn’t what he used to be but I fail to believe that all 450 players in the NBA today are better than he is. I’m sure he can contribute at some level. Maybe not even as a sixth man, but I’m sure he would still pay dividends.

We haven’t really seen him play all out in a meaningful game of late, but he recently participated in the Old Atlanta vs. New Atlanta Pro-Am game where he demonstrated some of his skills. It doesn’t look like he has gained a single pound since his NBA days and handle and feel is something you don’t easily lose as a point guard. In the video below, he grabs the rebound, brings the ball up court and takes it right at a backpedaling Jeff Teague. Then his A.I. instincts take over.

It doesn’t look as quick as it once did, nor did he take it to the rim like he would’ve 10 years ago but that’s still an effective play if you’re asking me. Even in the NBA. Game is game.
