Former #1 rated HS player in the 2010 Class, Josh Selby, has had a tough go of things since leaving high school.
If you remember, Josh was an immediate star on the prep level, playing at Lake Clifton HS, earning the nickname “Sensational Selby” for his electric play and highlight reel dunks, even winning the prestigious 2010 Powerade Dunk Contest by pulling off aleft-handed 360 alley-oop to take home the crown.
After leaving his Baltimore roots to play for Bill Self at Kansas, Selby was initially ruled ineligible and was suspended for the first 9 games of last season over some loose association to Carmelo Anthony’s business manager in Baltimore.
Then in true Hollywood fashion, he sank a game winning shot on the way to scoring 21 points in his first ever NCAA game to secure a victory over USC.
But thing quickly went downhill as Selby struggled to adjust to the college game amid rumors of squabbles with the coaching staff and teammates, as Josh finished up his collegiate career averaging just 7.9 ppg before surprisingly declaring early for the NBA Draft.
Despite heavy lobbying by fellow B-More native Carmelo Anthony for the NY Knicks to select Selby with the #17 pick, Josh slid all the way to the #49 pick, instead taken by the Memphis Grizzlies.
This Summer, Josh has been puttin in work, showing he deserved to be selected in the 1st Round by consistently taking it to NBA players in the Melo league, even scoring 48 points in a head to head match-up against Bucks guard Brandon Jennings.
But according to a recent story uncovered by MediaDailyLA.com, Selby has a lot more to hash out than adjusting to life in the NBA as the Los Angeles based site has allegedly uncovered a series of emails sent and recieved from Josh and a man named Justin Cruz back in February, 2011:
Justin: Aight well are you still gonna get the hotel room? and once I’m done with you your gonna get turned out LOL and when you get time follow me @IamJustinCruz
Josh: Idk about all of that but will see your pretty face :) and yeah I’m getting the telly hit me up aight!
Josh: wassup bruh….heres some pictures of me. don’t show anybody! because im in sports and dont want people to know and plus im just curious not gay bruh.
Now personally, one’s sexual preference doesn’t even enter into the equation as to just how good of a basketball player a person is but undoubtedly Selby’s life just got a little more complicated now that he has to answer questions and comment on whether or not he is an undercover brotha.
