The Grammy’s invaded Staples Center last weekend, but now it’s the NBA’s turn. All-Star Weekend is finally upon us and as you know, adidas is the official outfitter of the NBA. They have unveiled a new uniform design for this weekend’s game. The All-Star uniforms are inspired by the glitz and glamour Hollywood and, for the first time ever, the All-Stars have the option of wearing an adidas TECHFIT PowerWeb compression jersey or NBA Revolution jerseys.
The TECHFIT jersey features strategically placed Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) powerbands that align core muscles and boost power to key groups for more efficient movement that increases acceleration and endurance. The compression fit improves movement by preventing opposing players from grabbing loose jersey fabric and slowing them down. And all this time, you thought the league changed the jersey’s this year just for the sake of change.
Sticking with the theme of Hollywood, the on-court warm-ups are designed to mimic a three-piece suit often seen on the red carpet. Warm-up jackets feature cuffs in the standard formal three snaps and have an embellished internal pockets, similar to a suit coat.
A bunch of NBA All-Star apparel from adidas including shooting shirts, shorts, pants, track jackets and other collections is available for fans at the NBA Store and Jam Session, retailers across L.A. including the adidas Sport Performance Store at the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica. If you’ll be in the area, you’ll definitely want to stop by.
But that’s not all. In fact, that’s just a warm-up (get it?) Both Dwight Howard and Derrick Rose will be debuting the second version of their adidas signature shoes (photos after the jump) during the game on Sunday. Howard will be wearing the Dwight Howard Superbeast, while MVP frontrunner D-Rose will have on the new adiPure or Crazy 8 basketball shoes.
Dwight’s Superbeast features an all-new support system built for his unique style of play. The double stacked Z shaped TORSION SYSTEM features two deep grooves that run along the arch that allows the foot to easily rotate or twist inward, but slow the rate that the ankle can roll outward. This limits injuries and increases the body’s energy efficiency.
Now, Derrick’s adiZero Rose 1.5 is lighter and more supportive than his first shoe (as if he needs any help being quicker) because of a new formulation of SPRINTSKIN, which is designed to provide optimum reinforcement, superior breathability and increased durability. The shoe’s three-paneled SPRINTSKIN zones represent each of Derrick’s brothers who helped support him through his journey to the NBA. If you know anything at all about Rose, you know that’s he’s very close to his brothers. Similar to a wardrobe change at the Grammy’s, Rose will begin the game in a yellow colorway of the adiZero Rose 1, and switch to the adiZero Rose 1.5 in the second half.
Both the Dwight Howard Superbeast and the adiZero Rose 1.5 become available to the public today and various colorways will roll out through April.
But adidas isn’t done. The adiPure basketball shoe, which also features a SPRINTSKIN as well as PURE MOTION for support and cushioning, will become available this month and the collection includes limited edition All-Star colorways, in-line colorways and a special, limited edition Snoop Dogg adiPure collaboration colorway (photo after the jump). In addition to this, adidas will also be re-issuing the iconic Crazy 8 shoes in February as well.
And what All-Star weekend is complete without Jam Session? This year’s Jam Session is presented by adidas and allows fans to meet and collect autographs from NBA Players and Legends and see some of their favorite NBA players, mascots, dance teams and celebs. Jam Session is going on right now, and will continue through the 21st at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
