Iowa State’s Gilstrap Posterizes Cole Aldrich….Twice

February 3, 2010 – Allen Moll

Normally Kansas’ All-American Center, Cole Aldrich is getting the best of his opponents by gobbling up double digit rebounds or serving up some pretty nasty “get that outta here” style rejections, paving the way to another Jayhawk win

While it’s not very often that an opponent gets the best of Mr. Aldrich, we have found one of those rare moments. It serves notice of, if nothing else, that Aldrich is indeed human and not a shot-blocking android.

Last week the Kansas Jayhawks took care of the Iowa State Cyclones with an easy 84-61 victory which saw Cole Aldrich snap out of a mid-season slump by leading the team with 19 points, grabbing 11 rebounds, and blocking 3 shots. Pretty much a ho-hum, another day at the office type performance from the Kansas center except that he got Gil-strapped.

Even though Aldrich and the Jayhawks were able to hold the Cyclones leading scorer, Craig Brackins, who ravaged Kansas’s defense last season for 43 points, to a paltry 13 points this year, his front-court mate, Marcus Gilstrap, who is starting to generate some NBA Draft buzz, was able to virtually match Aldrich’s output with 18 points, 13 rebounds of his own, and two posterizing dunks.

In the video, watch as Gilstrap, not only takes it to one of the NCAA’s top shot blocker once, but twice, with authority. While the first dunk is not really over Aldrich, the second is of the “in your face” variety. Watch as Gilstrap serves up two facial dunks on Aldrich, then flexes and points to his bicep after each throw-down.

While all that really matters is that Kansas won the game, a good posterization(or two) is definitely entertaining.
