Did you think Jimmy Traina from Sports Illustrated was the only one with a little Extra Mustard? Andre Iguodala of the Philadelphia 76ers may have something to say about that.
Anyone who watched Game 1 of the Orlando Magic/Philadelphia 76ers first round playoff series tonight knows that for three quarters it was a snore fest. There was very little excitement and for much of the second and third quarters it looked like the Magic was going to run away with it. They led by as much as 18 points in the second half. But Andre Iguodala wasn’t going to just lay down and die.
Billed by many as a big underdog in this series, especially on the road in Orlando to open the series, Philly came storming back in the fourth quarter. After tying the game with less than 20 seconds left in the game, Philly gained possession and called a timeout to set up a last second possession to set up a “make it-take it” situation. Of course Philly put the ball in their leader’s hands, and Andre Iguodala didn’t disappoint.
Iggy gave a couple of cross-overs to try and shake Hedo Turkoglu. Although Hedo is not known for being the greatest defender on the Magic, his length often helps him defend opposing SF’s in clutch situations. With 2 seconds left in the game Iguodala pulled up for a jumper. Hedo played amazing defense and was right in Iguodala’s face, but great offense trumped great defense on this play. Iggy was cash money. Here is the replay of what was certainly the ‘shot of the playoffs’ thus far from a great opening weekend:
