I guess Carmelo Anthony’s broken hand has healed up nicely. During his time off from injury he must have done nothing but work on his hops, because tonight he had his high flying game on full display. Poor Wizards, poor Washington Wizards.
Not only were the Wizards as horrible as i’ve ever seen them tonight defensively, but it may have looked even worse given how well the Nuggets offense was clicking. Quite a few people have been noticing how well Denver has been playing since they acquired Chauncey Billups in the trade for Allen Iverson, but I still hear very little talk about the Nuggets being a contender for the Chip…..
Well they’ve got my vote. They have a ton of offensive firepower as usual, but with the added leadership of Chauncey Billups and the rejuvenated and healthy Kenyon Martin and Nene, the Nuggets are starting to even play some defense. I love watching the Nuggets play. They are definitely one of the most exciting teams in the league to watch. Every night you get highlight reel plays from ‘Melo, Kmart, J.R. Smith, Chris Anderson, and even Dahntay Jones.
The problem with nights like tonight against the Wizards is that they were too good. The Nuggets were up by over 30 points midway through the 3rd Quarter which means playing time for the ‘Melo’s and Martin’s ends up being limited. Carmelo only played 26 minutes tonight, yet managed to put up 23 points, 8 boards, and 6 assists. Oh my! At least we got a few highlight reel plays out of him before he was relegated to the bench. My favorite though was this blow by against Jamison, for the vicious one-hander with no one in reach wanting to even step to ‘Melo for fear of being posterized:
