Monta Ellis to Opt Out of His Final Year of His Deal, Become a Free Agent

The thought of having a Brandon Jennings – Monta Ellis backcourt in Milwaukee for years to come appears to be dwindling. Monta Ellis has decided to opt out of the final year of his contract and become a free agent. It feels like he has been in the NBA forever, but Ellis is only 27 years old and just about in his physical prime.

Often thought of as erratic, Ellis could be a key cog to a contender. If he’s ever in the right system, he could be a pretty valuable player.

Monta Ellis has informed the Milwaukee Bucks that he will opt out of the last year of his deal, according to league sources.

Ellis, who had one year, $11 million left on his contract, will become one of the most coveted free agents on the market this summer.

The Bucks reportedly had offered Ellis a two-year, $24 million extension earlier this month, but the offer was contingent on him not opting out of the final season of his contract.

And to think the Lakers are already sniffing around.
