It’s no secret that Kings 3rd year forward/center DeMarcus Cousins is his own worst enemy.
He’s proven to be supremely talented, ranking in the Top 3 in rebounding last season and appears to be bordering on potentially All-Star status.
His temperamental demeanor and outspoken off-the court candid comments may have even cost him a spot on Team USA this Summer. In short, Cousins can be his own worst enemy.
With that being said, DMC was having a great game Friday night against the Spurs, even getting the best of future Hall of Famer Tim Duncan on occasion throughout the game. In true DMC fashion, he continually talked trash to the 13 time All-Star and taunted the San Antonio bench.
In the end, Duncan and his 23 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 blocks helped the Spurs defeat Cousins (14 pts, 8 reb) and the Kings, to emerge as the leaders of the Western Conference in the early portion of the season.
One person who took offense to all the DMC boasting and trash talk was former Spur Sean Elliot, now one of the San Antonio on-air commentators. Here were his comments:
“That’s why some humility is in order. You think you’re dominating Tim Duncan, you get it stuffed right back in your face. Timmy doesn’t like to talk trash. But if guys start talking mess to him, he’s going to respond. All that trash talking was premature. I’m not about to let these guys off the hook. Young ballclubs should learn from this. Don’t start talking and flapping your gums against one of the greatest players ever. He’s going to make you pay. Tell me who got the best of this exchange.”
As one could imagine, Cousins got word of Elliot’s scathing comments and gave his own response…..
DeMarcus Cousins’ Comments on Tim Duncan and Sean Elliot:
Shortly following these post-game comments on Friday, Cousins made his way back to the court to confront Sean Elliot and give him a piece of his mind. A short verbal confrontation ensued. Although, nothing physical came of the situation, the NBA today decided they would suspend DeMarcus Cousins for his actions:
The NBA has suspended Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins for two games without pay for confronting San Antonio announcer Sean Elliott in a hostile manner.
The exchange followed the Spurs’ 97-86 victory in Sacramento on Friday night. The volatile Cousins will lose about $70,500 of his $3.9 million salary.
Cousins will sit out games at the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday and at home against Portland on Tuesday. (via)
