Kwame Brown: “I Taught Bynum Everything He Knows”

Kwame Brown has been the subject of criticism since the day he came into the league after being drafted 1st overall by the Washington Wizards straight out of high school. Not because he was an absolutely horrible player, but mainly because he was arguably the biggest bust in NBA Draft History chosen #1 overall. He was at best a ‘serviceable’ center. He was a big, long body on defense, but it always appeared he lacked effort and passion for the game. Offensively, he had terrible hands, and very few moves around the bucket.

But don’t tell that to Kwame Brown. Now that Andrew Bynum is starting to develop his offensive game in Los Angeles taking over more of a scoring role with the Lakers, Brown feels his mentoring years ago was part of the success for Bynum. In fact Kwame even believes he personally is one of the better defenders in the NBA. *Warning*, what you are about to read is not a joke. They are actual quotes from Brown this week…

Then came the fantasy.

“That was my young fella,” Brown said. “I taught him everything he knows.”

Followed by a little more fantasy.

“I’m one of the better defenders in the league and we played against each other every day in practice,” Brown said. “I told him if you can score against me, you can score on anyone.”

Brown and Bynum were teammates on the Lakers for 21/2 seasons until Brown was sent to Memphis as part of the Pau Gasol trade in February 2008.

All I have to say about Brown teaching Bynum ‘everything he knows’ is that must have taken all of an afternoon. Sorry Kwame, but Bynum’s development is Bynum’s development, leave it at that.
