Pro-Am leagues this summer are doing a great job in helping us forget that there’s a lockout which is threatening next season. Marquee players are taking their talents to the most notable leagues and are really showing out. They aren’t going there just to show their face or to gain attention. They really want to play against some good competition.
Last night was no different in Los Angeles. In what came as a surprise to me, Kobe Bryant stopped by the Drew in L.A. I never would’ve guessed that Kobe had any interest at all in playing in Pro-Am leagues at this stage of his career. I know he has done this is summers past, but either way it caught me off guard. But I was glad to see it. In additional to him simply wanting to play basketball, I think it also shows those involved in league negotiations that these guys are thirsty to play, with training camps scheduled to begin at the end of next month.
Aside from dropping 45 points, with the game tied and only a few seconds left, Kobe did what Kobe does. Unfortunately it was at the expense of James Harden:
