The Indiana Pacers are probably the NBA’s biggest surprise this season as the No. 5 team in the east at the moment with a 30-25 record.
While much of the acclaim and rightfully so has been for Victor Oladipo and his breakout season that has led to his first All-Star nomination, one of the key components to their steady success has been the steady point guard play of Darren Collison.
Collison is averaging 12.8 points and 5.3 assists per game on an impressive 49.5% shooting from the field and the NBA’s 9th best three point percentage at 43.5% from deep.
The Pacers will be without him for the next few weeks though as he undergoes arthroscopic knee surgery.

This is definitely a bummer in the short term for the Pacers, but Cory Joseph is one of the better back up point guards in the NBA and Victor Oladipo has displayed the ability to run an offense for stretches in his career, so they may be able to persevere in Collison’s absence.
Anytime there is an arthroscopic knee surgery there is always the fear a player comes back too soon or takes longer than anticipated to heal.
The Pacers are hoping they will have their starting point guard back for the stretch run of the season leading into the 2018 NBA Playoffs.
