Suns Williams Could Miss Entire Season After Meniscus Tear

Alan Williams is the very rare story of an undrafted player who was able to make his hometown team and establish himself as a valuable player for the organization he grew up rooting for.

Williams made an immediate impact and carved out a role last season for the Suns, averaging 7.4 points and 6.2 rebounds in just 15 minutes per game, which translated to a ridiculous 17.6 points and 14.8 rebounds per 36 minute average.

He is a monster on the glass and has a soft touch around the rim with an array of shots and was rewarded with a three-year, $17 million contract this off-season by the Suns.

Unfortunately, he may not be available for much or the entire first year of his new contract after tearing his meniscus during a team workout this past weekend.

That would project from him to return sometime in late March, but if the team has little to play for at that point there will be little reason for Williams to return for the last few weeks of the season.

This is bad news for the Suns, whom have already lost Brandon Knight to a torn ACL for the season. It opens the door and gives one more opportunity in Phoenix for Alex Len to prove his worth after he signed the one-year qualifying offer this past week and he will now split time at center with Tyson Chandler exclusively.

Crappy news for Big Sauce, hopefully he comes back better than ever in 2018.
