Rose, Cavs in Serious Contract Talks

According to a report from ESPN Reporter and longtime LeBron follower, Brian Windhorst, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Derrick Rose are in serious discussions for a one-year contract.

That is some pretty surprising and explosive news considering the Cavaliers have one of the best young point guards in the NBA in Kyrie Irving and signed Jose Calderon on the first day of free agency.

Rose is a big name and coming off his best season in five years in New York, averaging 18-4-3 on 47% shooting, but he is clearly a shell of his former self and his atrocious three-point shooting (he shot 21% last season) and below-average defense don’t exactly mesh with what the Cavs need or want.

He can be a source of offense and scoring punch off the bench for the Cavaliers and help keep them above water offensively in short stretches without LeBron or Irving on the floor, but he seems like an odd fit alongside either one of them.

It is an intriguing possibility to sign him for the veteran’s minimum or mid-level exception in theory, but it doesn’t make much sense in practicality and is further proof that the Cavaliers organization doesn’t really have a plan this summer, which is what happens when you don’t have a general manager.
