It appears the tune has changed for future first ballot hall of famer and greatest European basketball player of all-time Dirk Nowitzki.
At one point last season when he was dealing with an Achilles issue he though that the 2016-17 season could be it for him, now he intends to sign a new two-year contract with the Mavericks and play into his 40s.

Dirk was honored with the inaugural Twyman-Stokes NBA Teammate of the Year Award at the NBA Awards Show Monday night. During his acceptance speech he announced his desire to be around, “A couple more years.”
Two more seasons would put Dirk at an incredible 21 NBA seasons, (one less than record holder Robert Parrish) and have him playing through his age 40 season.
At that point he may as well tie the NBA record and play through his aged 41 season, I mean that is the number that he wears that will be hanging in the rafters as soon as he retires.
Here is to hoping we actually get two more years out of Nowitzki before he rides off into the sunset, another playoff run or two would be fun as well.
